See: long term health care

Long term care (LTC) actually represents a wide variety of different health care services. When selecting a long term care provider or purchasing LTC insurance, one should understand the different types of care that is available. These long term care services are essentially designed to help you remain as independent as possible by providing assistance when you are not physically or psychologically capable of being completely independent.

The most widely known type of long term care is the Nursing Home. A nursing home is a facility intended to provide care to individuals who cannot be cared for at home or in the community. Individuals entering a nursing home are usually incapable of taking care of themselves for physical or psychological reasons and require constant care around the clock. Nursing homes provide skilled nursing care and provide assistance in performing basic living skills, such as eating, using the toilet, or taking a bath. Costs for nursing homes vary from state to state, and according to the level of medical care required.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities are somewhat more upscale solutions that offer seniors a housing and care package that evolves with the health of the senior. Seniors purchase a housing unit in the community while still in good health. Over time, as their health deteriorates, they remain in the comfort of their community but are transferred from independent living to assisted living and ultimately to nursing home care as needed. This type of community provides a broad continuum of different long term care services.

Assisted Living is another type of long term care. Assisted living provides housing which can be a room or apartment organized in a small community. Patients in an assisted living facility are somewhat more independent and generally require a lower level of care than those in a nursing home. Assisted living communities provide some assistance in daily living tasks, organize social activities among members, and provide ready access to medical care when needed. Costs for assisted living vary depending on the type of housing provided.

Housing Programs are a healthcare version of a group or boarding home, where the patient lives with a group of people in a single residence or facility. Patients need some assistance in basic living skills but not skilled nursing care. Other types of housing programs may actually provide independent apartments when subsidized by the government for low income individuals.

Residential Care Homes are single family homes that provide a bed and bathroom for a patient along with services from a caregiver. These services typically include assistance in daily living tasks and meals. Fees for the room and healthcare are provided to the owner of the home. The patient lives with a family and typically one member of that family is a trained caregiver.

Community Services are partly underwritten by communities and include services such as adult day care, meals on wheels, transportation services, and case management services. These services are intended to help those patients that are receiving care from their families.

The last major type of care is informal care. This type of care is probably the most widely used type of long term care because it carries no cost. Informal care is provided by a patient's family and while there is no financial cost, there is usually a significant burden placed on the family member who is the caregiver.

This continuum of health care services may vary from state to state and be called slightly different names. Being familiar with your long term care options will help you to evaluate all your choices and make the best long term care choice in relation to your specific needs and financial situation.

Posture Neck Pain

October 25th, 2009 neilmaxwell1966 No comments

Mothers, teachers, mentors, and acting instructors across homes and classes are familiar with the “Sit up straight!” mantra to their children and students. Posture is incredibly important for adequate spinal alignment, sufficient breathing, and also evens out tension often held within the neck and back. With back, neck, and shoulder injuries ever-rising, we can all benefit from posture improvement, breathing technique, and learning to release stress and strain from our bodies.

The Alexander Technique was developed by F.Matthias Alexander in the 1890’s, and is a posture and muscle-control technique that helps to align, center, and control the body easily and naturally . After practicing for a period of sesions, this becomes effortless. The Alexander Technique is a way to apply pressure and overall adjustment in a natural, and almost holistic sense, as it allows the body to remain in a completely balanced state of ‘rest’ yet while it is still moving and alert. This state of both physical and mental well-being is one of positivity, relaxation, and clear alertness. An improvement in overall posture is a natural outcome.

Starting in early childhood, we learn to adapt to various situations, circumstances, and physical environments given our natural genetic structure, and our ability to learn movement. As time progresses, habits truly do dictate how well and how completely our bodies learn. The natural poise of a baby cannot be denied, as it is the most comfortable and efficient form of human alignment. As we grow older, we often over-use a particular set or group of muscles. Over-extending a particular muscle, or group of muscles, will cause you to adapt to that stance even if you are not functioning in an optimal and physically balanced state.

Tension in the neck, back, and shoulders is common amongst both the young and old. With the increased dependence on computers, sitting in chairs, cars, and other sedentary lifestyles, the craning of the neck and slouched shoulders are of increasing concern. Not only does this cause unnecessary strain in these areas, but the tension that begins to build can create further damage, stress, and muscle slackness. This type of muscle use is inefficient and does not help to improve your posture in the long-term.

In an optimal state, the body is carried flawlessly, without limitation, and without pain. Since chronic stress and tension are diminished, this allows for free-flowing energy and better circulation throughout joints, muscles, and even blood. Without any constrictions, the body can adapt to the environment fluidly, whether it is sitting, standing, or posing. This is often why actors and actresses use the Alexander Technique to improve their overall appearance and skills; the technique provides them with the skills needed to make the best use of their energy, and enhance their physical bodies naturally.

Another interesting aspect of the Alexander Technique is that once physical problems are removed, aches and pains within the body may translate to an emotional level as well; there are many times when neck, back, and shoulder tension is also a combination of anger, sadness, or negative feelings that are literally ‘stored’ in these areas. With the help of Alexander Technique, both a physical and emotional ‘release’ is possible, and can improve emotional problems considerably.

The central ‘theory’ behind the Alexander Technique is the use of a Primary Control. This means that your spine, shoulders, and back are thought to be the centerpiece of your body, almost like an imaginary ‘cross’ that can improve your posture. These remain stable yet supple, creating your center, and all other joints and muscles are extensions of this strong area. When in a state of natural rest, this area will be balanced and poised, without tension and control. Coordination of the entire body can take place from this center point. The best way to begin is by making sure your neck is in alignment with your spine, no matter what your stance or activity. This can feel awkward at first, but keeping your eye level perpendicular to the ground, and your head slightly tipped forward (not craning your neck), will help in the adjustment period. Your head should move smoothly and effortlessly, not rigidly or “stuck” to your neck.

The Alexander Technique is named after its founder, F.M. Alexander, himself an actor and teacher who taught the technique without textbooks or required reading. Instead, he emphasized that this technique could, and should, be taught in a one-on-one setting. This ensures that students would have a guided and methodical understanding of the technique itself, and knew what to expect from themselves when practicing.

Today, almost every town and city has at least one trained teacher of this technique; its helpful to look in alternative health classifieds, local adult groups, and even healthfood and organic stores for leads. You’ll learn very valuable lessons from anyone who is trained and qualified; these will cover all areas including sitting, lying down, standing, and walking. Each session can range from 20-60 minutes. Your progress will be monitored, and the more you practice, the more effortless and natural your balanced posture will become. Steps to improve your posture with better coordination will greatly enhance your daily living, aches and pains, as well as increasing the chances of healthy joints and muscle groups. Our mothers and teachers had great intentions when chiding us for sitting up straight, and you can further improve your posture by learning the benefits of the Alexander Technique.

Male Infertility

October 23rd, 2009 neilmaxwell1966 No comments

Re: Infertility Women
Infertility is a stressful issue for men, women and couples everywhere. There are many reasons why a couple may consider alternative remedies as opposed to conventional medical therapy. Some pursue alternative treatments when their medical choices didn't work. Some were not ready to consider invasive and expensive medical therapy and some were simply not able to afford conventional therapy. Whatever the reason, there are some things you need to think about before beginning alternative infertility treatment.

Is Alternative Treatment Right For Us?

Before beginning alternative treatment for infertility, you need to think about a few things. First, consider the reason why you are having difficulty getting pregnant. For example, if there is a male factor where sperm are not produced, yoga or acupuncture may not be appropriate for your type of infertility. However, if you have irregular menstrual cycles, alternative treatment may be able to help get your hormones back on track. Unexplained infertility may also benefit from alternative treatments. Also, many alternative therapies work best when the patient is open minded and believes in the value of the treatment. So if you are cynical or do not think it will work, alternative treatment may not be the right path for you.

Types of Alternative Treatment

There are many types of treatments available. Here are some of the most common:

Acupuncture – A specially trained practitioner uses tiny needles inserted into key points in the body. There have been a number of studies which indicate that acupuncture may slightly increase the success rate when used in conjunction with In Vitro Fertilization. Acupuncture is also very effective in reducing stress, a key component in trying to conceive.

Herbal Supplements – While Eastern medicine has been using herbal supplements for hundreds of years, Western medicine tends to be more skeptical of this type of treatment. As a result, there haven't been any real scientific studies performed to test the efficacy of herbal medicines. There is also some concern as to the effect that those herbals may have on the body, hormones and even a potential pregnancy. Make sure to tell your practitioner any supplements that you may be using, and consult an herbal specialist before considering any type of fertility herbal medication.

Yoga – Besides being effective for stress reduction, some poses may help to increase blood flow to the reproductive organs and open the pelvis joints. There is certainly no harm in adding yoga to your exercise or daily routine.

Dietary Changes – Recent studies have shown that making slight changes in your diet may increase your fertility. For example, switching to whole grain products, increasing the number of fruit and vegetable servings you eat each day, or even switching to dairy with a higher fat content have all been associated with higher fertility. Eating a healthier diet will also have no ill effect on fertility or conventional fertility treatments.

How to Find Alternative Treatments

If you decide to try yoga, there are several DVD's or classes that are geared towards fertility. When seeking out an alternative therapy like acupuncture or herbal supplements, make sure to find a fully licensed practitioner who is trained in infertility treatment. Start with the licensing association for listings of qualified practitioners. If you are going to be using this treatment in conjunction with your medical therapies, try asking for your doctor for a recommendation. And of course, always make your physician aware of any alternative treatments that you are using while undergoing treatment.

Apply For A Business Loan

Found: Apply For a £1000 Loan

To get a sense of how quickly the picture has changed for Sallie Mae, expectations on private loan originations for 2009 have dropped by 36% in a little over three months (which might also explain why there is an opening for an EVP of Sales and Marketing):

  • July 22nd conference call:  Projected 2009 originations at $5.0 billion
  • September 16th conference call:  Projected 2009 originations at $3.5 billion
  • Based on today's earnings release, I would estimate 2009 originations to come in at around the $3.2 billion range.

The central question now is whether they feel the need to modify their loan terms, which currently require interest payments while in school and have an average rate of LIBOR + 10%, in hopes of driving additional volume or whether they are happy with these volumes.  With the threat of FFELP disappearing, private loans will become a more important piece of their business model so I suspect they will go back and finetune the product to capture more volume.  Their SmartOption loan product was designed from the outset to appeal to potential investors in student loan securities by having shorter terms, immediate cash flow, cosigners on 90% of the loans and stronger underwriting standards.

On the private loan delinquency and default, the company indicated charge-offs continued to rise:

    Group Health Insurance

    October 19th, 2009 neilmaxwell1966 No comments

Source: Colon Cleanse Free Trial Free Shipping

It is getting more difficult for most people to buy health insurance. The rising cost of insurance premiums are already beyond the means of many individuals to pay. Families with children have it even worse. Insurance formularies are under constant revision as more and more medications are removed or reclassified to cost more. Maintenance medications are periodically eliminated leaving the patient to buy more expensive alternatives. Most consumers cannot pay the monthly premiums which leads them to purchase the bare minimum of coverage which may not address what conditions they already have or new ones which may develop later on.

Migraine headaches are the most recent fatality to come from limitations set by the insurance companies. In the past these incapacitating headaches created a learning experience for the medical profession as treatment ranged from tranquilizers, muscle relaxers, and a variety of pain killers.

In the 1980’s and 1990’s, medicines requiring a physician’s permission were created to specifically target migraine relief. These medications were prescribed by themselves or in conjunction with pain or other medicines. Now, in the current day and age, many prescriptions designed expressly for severe headaches have been created, and can be obtained by patients all over the United States and the world. N/A Unfortunately, these kinds of migraine prescriptions also tend to be extremely expensive, and are either only minimally paid for or completely excluded by many medical insurance plans.

This kind of insurance situation puts people who deal with migraines on a regular basis with a limited amount of pills each month (i.e. 10-12), and then they have to decide which one of their migraines they’ll use one of the pills for, when this is medication they should be taking whenever they have a migraine. Insurance doesn’t cover them if all the pills are used before the end of the month, so the expense to reorder more pills becomes theirs alone. These migraine sufferers will continue to pay their premiums, but due to the skyrocketed prices of many of these medications, many are unable to pay for them out of their own pocket, so they just suffer through. It has been found that migraines can often be signs of other unknown health issues. Some of these quickly end up in a stroke. And what are the results of this occurs on a night when they felt they couldn’t, or just didn’t, take the medication?

Medicaid can be a viable option for some people, like someone I know, who can’t pay for insurance. To apply, you have to complete a multitude of forms and earn only the Medicaid maximum, but if you are able to get Medicaid to accept you, your physician appointments and medications could be covered. But once you get Medicaid, you must stay on top of things or you could be canceled if you don’t follow all of their regulations to ensure coverage.

Ironically, at a time when there exist medications that can treat migraines, insurance businesses are basically withholding these remedies by imposing financial or other restrictions upon the patients. Migraine patients could simply be victims of the most recent condition restricted by insurance, but is a solution available to assist them in obtaining the remedy they require? The current presidential administration is taking this and other concerns under consideration. With any luck, some solutions will be forthcoming.

    re: fishing supplies

Do you know have any avid fishermen on your gift list? Knowing what to buy them may not seem simple at first but this list of the top 10 gifts under $10 for fishermen will get you moving in the right direction, and at a very affordable price. Keep in mind, if you are not exactly sure that you are buying the right thing for this recipient, you can always purchase a gift certificate to a major sporting goods store in your area.

1.)Fishing Themed Desk Accessories – I found a great example on www.gofishin.com. This simple, clear paperweight has a fishing fly imbedded inside. It costs only $4.99 and is a great, easy gift for the fishermen in your life.

2.)Tackle Boxes – Every fisherman needs one, of course. Otherwise, how would they keep all of those little items organized? There are many inexpensive items available, and a simple model is the Cook’s Original Tackle Storage System that I found online at www.cabelas.com. It is a very simple design at a very affordable price.

3.)Instructional Books – Barnesandnoble.com has an excellent selection of inexpensive printed material on the subject of fishing. For under $10 you can find gift books including: Guide to Fly Fishing Knots by Larry Notley, Fishing for Dummies by Peter Kaminsky, or Saltwater Florida Fishes by Rube Allyn. There are many more books available, so research the specific type of fishing your friend does and purchase accordingly.

4.)Bottle Coolers – A nice lazy afternoon at the lake just is not complete without a cold brew in hand. These cute bottle coolers from www.fishandgifts.com come in four different fish varieties and are a steal at only $5.95 each. This is a very creative gift for fishermen.

5.)Decorative Signs – You have, of course, seen the ever popular “Gone Fishin’” signs everywhere. Try to find something a bit unique, like this “Fishing Rules” sign from www.terrysvillage.com. This outdoor sign has a list of three simple fishing rules, including “Tell your own lies” and is priced very low at only $7.95.

6.)Fishing Themed Coffee Mug – These can be found almost everywhere if you are near a popular body of water. I found a very affordable version at www.jlhufford.com. This coffee mug is covered with all of their favorite aquatic friends and is priced right at under $10.

7.)Gag Gifts with Fisherman Theme – You can surely locate something silly for the fisherman on your gift list, but this Talking Beer Opener is funny, affordable, and useful! Visit www.cookscorner.com to purchase this item for just $7.99.

8.)Cooking Accessories – Well, they are catching fish because it’s food, right? An inexpensive cooking utensil that every fisherman should own is a hand held fish grill for preparing a meal right at the lake, over a fire. I located a Triple Fish Grill at www.chefgadget.com for only $5.95.

9.)Tackle? – A simple gift and incredibly easy to find is fishing tackle. Look at www.dickssportinggoods.com for a giant selection or visit a local bait and tackle store. Be sure to have an idea about the type of fishing the recipient does so that you can get something they will actually use. Someone in the customer service department online or in the store can help you make the appropriate stock.xchng – the leading free stock photography sitechoices. This is an easy and useful gift under $10 for fishermen.

10.)Bug Repellant Items – Anything that keeps away the mosquitoes is a great gift for anyone who spends time near the water. Rather than buying that terrible smelling spray, opt for this Buzz Off Cotton Hat from www.exofficio.com. It costs only $8.97 and is perfect for repelling insects and reducing sin glare.
